A new cuvee, and a spectacular one, is the 100% old vine Grenache cuvee, the 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Grenaches de Pierre. This wine boasts a dark ruby, slightly purple-tinged color and a glorious nose of sweet raspberries, jammy black cherries, licorice as well as smoke and earth. It has sensational texture in a juicy, succulent full-bodied style, but with refreshing acidity and sweet but elevated tannin. This is a knock-out wine that should be at its best between 2009 and 2020+.

Opaque ruby. Sexy, hugely fragrant bouquet evokes raspberry, blackberry and kirsch, with a suave floral quality adding complexity. Very sweet flavors of red and dark fruit liqueur lead to silky tannins and a long, sappy finish. This is awfully seductive right now.
