~89PTS ROBERT PARKER 2004 Bright, dark and deep red. The dark colour sets thetone for the flavours that are as black as night: dark cherry pits, dark berries, a lasting smoky yet rich black-tar. Though tannic now, this wine should evolve. Theres already some complexity beginning to develop out of its firm, quiet supple core.

Review
Publication: Wine Spectator Weekly Wine: Marques de Casa Concha 2001 Merlot Date: December 2003 Country: United States Review: 90 points. Top 100 wine of 2003 Comments: Smoky and ripe, with black currant and plum flavors, hints of herbs, cocoa and toast, and a fleshy, mouthfilling finish. Feels like it has the stuffing to cellar a bit too. This label is really strong these days. Drink now through 2005.

Rating
 Wine Spectator 89 points
Starts with flashy toast, but also shows good cassis and plum fruit, backed by a nice varietal note of grilled herb on the finish. Drink now through 2007. 38,000 cases made.

Technical notes
Variety: Merlot
Origin: Peumo Vineyard. Peumo, Rapel Valley.
Soil: The former terraces of the Cachapoal River are deep alluvial clay loam. The clays provide great water retention that contributes to good grape ripening.
Climate: Subhumid Mediterranean. Hot days give way to temeperate nights. The nearby Cachapoal River abates summer temperatures at night, which helps in the development of this variety`s softer tannins.
Harvest: Hand picked. April 26 - May 8, 2001.
Aging: 16 months in french oak barrels(33% in new & 67% in two year old barrels).
